Grid Paintings
Over the years I've spent struggling through this work, I've been endeared to the process. The can of worms from which this premise originates is my cross stitching hobby. I learned I could generate patterns by uploading photos and immediately began plugging in my figure reference images. I hand draw 20th of an inch grids and transfer my patterns with marker as the underbase, and then paint over every square all over again for the final layer. I love a complicated studio practice!
These range from 10-50+ hours to finish a piece. I'm always pushing for a process that is complex enough to keep me interested, while also trying to reign myself in and not end up with a properly impossible task. This series really takes it to the limit, and I love being along that edge.
